The 24th Galway Film Festival has wrapped up in Ireland with good news for the Spanish production The Perfect Stranger (El Perfecto Desconocido) (2011) by winning the festival?s Best International New Feature Award. Directed by Toni Bestard, who has extensive experience as a maker of short films, this movie arrived for the Irish event after having been shown in other film exhibitions around the world, including the Busan Film Festival in South Korea, Valladolid?s International Film Week ? ?Seminci? , the Titanic International Film Festival of Budapest and the Palm Springs Film Festival near Los Angeles.
The cast of this film is led by Irish actor Colm Meaney, nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in The Snapper (1994) and, among his many films are projects directed by Robert Redford, Stephen Frears and Alan Parker. For his performance in The Perfect Stranger (El Perfecto Desconocido) (2011), he received the Best Actor Award at the Tiburon International Film Festival in California. The cast for this debut feature film for its director, Toni Bestard, is rounded out by Ana Wagener, Carlos Santos and Vicky Peña.
In the film, Meaney plays a mysterious traveller who sets himself up in an old abandoned shop in a town on the island of Mallorca. The town?s inhabitants anticipate his reopening the shop, but he has other intentions. He?s looking for some answers concerning an old Polaroid photograph he has brought with him.
