Expectation is starting to build for Alejandro Amenabars latest project. After an advance of a series of images, Agora is now showing dialogues and the explanation of its fascinating history of the real-life astronomer Hypatia, who fought to save the wisdom of the ancient world.
The Spanish filmmaker, born in Chile, recounts this historical drama for which he needed a large budget, resulting in the most expensive production in Spanish cinema history some 50 million euros. The film has been shot in English to encourage its distribution worldwide.
The film stars Rachel Weisz, who plays Hypatia, the astronomer who sought to protect knowledge from the clutches of a Christian mob. The British actress is joined in the cast by Oscar Isaac, Ashraf Barhom, Max Minghella and Rupert Evans, among others.
