Ruy and Tito, childhood friends, are two young Cuban musicians struggling for daily survival in the island’s unique economy. To earn a living they take whatever comes up and, to make it as musicians, they record home-made demo tapes and work on organizing their first concert. In spite of innumerable obstacles, their ambition and humor keep hope alive. Ruy is married to Caridad and, although they have two children and still love each other, Ruy’s unstable life, both financial and personal, has them on the verge of breaking up. The two friends meet Marta and Lorenzo, Spanish music producers who come to Cuba in search of young talent. Ruy and Tito believe their ship has come in, and do all they can to win over the Spanish producers. Ruy is chosen to seduce Marta, thus guaranteeing him his ticket to Spain, but, as a result, both neglect the preparation for their concert and Ruy abandons his family obligations. For her part, Caridad finally decides to divorce Ruy and take her children to the United States. However, deteriorating relations with the Spanish and the abusive conditions of the contract they offer, which would prevent him from returning to Cuba for a long time, make Ruy hesitate. Deeply troubled by seeing everything he loves fall apart, the only way Ruy finds to recover his self esteem is to make a clean break and distance himself from Tito, who has decided to go to Spain in spite of everything. The day of the concert arrives. Ruy agrees to go through with it so as not to let everyone down after they have supported him and his project for so long, but he is heartbroken because his brother Tito isn’t there to share the dream they built together.
