The animation film Arrugas (Wrinkles) has won the prestigious Goya Award in the categories of Best Animated Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Directed by Ignacio Ferreras, Arrugas is about the friendship between Emilio and Miguel, two elderly men in a retirement facility. Emilio, who has just arrived in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, will get help from Miguel and other residents to avoid being sent to the facility’s top floor, the dreaded floor of “the lost causes.” Their mad plan injects comedy and tenderness into a tedious day-to-day existence for these fellows because, even if many of the residents see their lives as coming to an end, for them, a new one has just begun.

Another filmotech.com release this week is Aparecidos (The Appeared), a horror “road movie” directed by Paco Cabezas in which, one night, two brothers travelling across Argentina find a diary which reveals details about crimes committed twenty years earlier. Past and present fuse as the two brothers helplessly watch a family hunted down, tortured and killed as described step-by-step in the diary...

Lo mejor de mí (“The Best of Me”) is a romantic drama directed by Roser Aguilar in which a young journalist has to reconsider her life and her future when her boyfriend gets seriously ill awaiting a liver transplant.

Long-time filmmaker Gonzalo Suárez directs Oviedo Express, a comedy about the misadventures of a group of comedians who perform in the play La Regenta in the city of Oviedo in the Asturias region of Spain.

In Cosas que nunca te dije (“Things I Never Told You”), Catalonian director Isabel Coixet tells the story of Ann, a young woman who has just broken up with her boyfriend and Don, an estate agent who works as a volunteer at a telephone help line.
