THE BEST INDIE FILMS ON FILMOTECH.COM Take a group of thirty-somethings who have lost their way in life, generational anxieties, and throw in a script that has a bit of sarcasm and irony. Serve it fresh and garnish it with a modern, pop-music-style soundtrack, and what do you get? Of course, we're talking about the indie comedy of the year – the one that comes each year around this time to the delight of trendy nerdy types the world over. The indie phenomenon this time is called Happythankyoumoreplease and it's a tribute to those existentialist doubts of today's thirty-somethings which won the Jury Award at the last Sundance Film Festival. To celebrate the premiere of this excellent film, we've put together a selection of little-known independent films in Spain. These are genuinely interesting films which didn't have the publicity they deserved when they were on the big screen and which filmotech.com brings back for you now. These practically unseen jewels await your viewing pleasure.
Cinema Premieres in Spain Spring is definitely in full bloom with new films showing in Spanish theatres. In addition to the previously-mentioned Happythankyoumoreplease, 10 films are being added to the must-see lists of film fans. Added to the French film Rien à Déclarer (Nothing to Declare), by the director of the blockbuster-in-France Welcome to the Land of Shtis, is the Serbian movie Zena sa slomljenim nosem (The Woman with a Broken Nose), an engaging tragicomedy of intertwined lives coming to terms with the wounds and scars of the past. Documentary lovers will be in luck this week with the debuts of Morente, a film legacy of the recently deceased Grenadine singer-songwriter, Al final de la escapada, which examines the death with dignity of a rebel, and La Isla, about a forgotten Guatemalan genocide.
Holy Week beckons with the premiere of the Roman-Empire-themed film The Eagle and action films are solidly represented with Drive Angry 3D, Limitless, and I Am Number Four. Finally, there's a promising animation film for the little ones in the family, Rio, the story of a domesticated macaw from rural Minnesota who decides head down to Rio de Janeiro to find out who is the most macho of his species.
