YOU?LL FIND SPANISH INDIE FILMS ON FILMOTECH.COM

This week, filmotech.com brings you four new independent Spanish films. The first is Shevernatze: una Epopeya Marcha Atrás, a surreal, original story about a driving instructor who decides to drive from Madrid to Avila in reverse to win back his ex-girlfriend. Then, we have El Cant dels Ocells [Birdsong], by controversial Albert Serra, in which the Catalonian filmmaker presents his own unique view of the journey of the Three Kings of the Orient in search of the newborn Messiah. Next in our offering of indie films is Carnaval de Sodoma, a Spanish co-production with Mexico, directed by Arturo Ripstein (El Coronel no Tiene Quien le Escriba [No One Writes to the Colonel]), the true father of a new generation of hit Mexican filmmakers, like Cuaron and González Iñárritu, and a collaborator with Luis Buñuel on various films. Starring Spanish actress María Barranco, it´s a story of a run-down bordello and its down-and-out characters living out their frustrations and poverty within its walls.

For those who like something a little more off-beat, there´s Mamut, the new film by Swedish filmmaker Lukas Moodysson, with Gael García Bernal in the cast, and a premiere from Catalonia, L´estació del l´oblit [Station of the Forgotten], by Christian Molina and Sandra Serna, a tale on older people reflecting on getting older and communication between generations.
