Today, the 39th Alcala de Henares-Comunidad de Madrid Film Festival (Alcine 39) gets underway, taking place in this Madrid Region city until 14th November. Organized by the Alcala de Henares Town Hall and the Regional Government, this edition will have 70 short films (38 Spanish and 32 European) and 6 Spanish first works competing in the official sections. The short films are divided between the Certamen Nacional de Cortometrajes [Spanish Short Film Contest], the Certamen Europeo [European Contest], and Pantalla Abierta [Open Screen], vying for prizes between 1,000 and 9,000 euros. The jury selecting the award winners is made up of well-known Spanish cinema personalities, such as actors Daniel Guzman and Maria Ballesteros, scriptwriter Yolanda Garcia Serrano, and the director of the Festival Internacional de Cortometrajes de Barcelona (MECAL) [International Short Film Festival of Barcelona], Roberto Berrueco, among others. However, one of the main new features of this edition will be the Shortlatino film market, the first Ibero-American short film market. Scandinavian cinema will also be featured in the coming days of the festival in numerous activities.
