Actor Alfredo Landa has been recognized by the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematograficas de España [Spanish academy of cinema arts and sciences] to receive the Goya de Honor 2007 for lifetime achievement in the world of cinema. He will be given this award at the academys 22nd Annual Awards Gala in the first week of February, 2008. Alfredo Landa made his cinema debut in 1962 with Atraco a las 3 by Jose Maria Forque. He has appeared in more than 120 films, not counting television and theatre works. Some of his movies came to create their own sub-genre known as "landismo", which portrayed the Spanish sexual repression of the 1960s in a humorous way. His best characters were recorded on films like El crack, La vaquilla [The Heifer] or Los santos inocentes [The Holy Innocents]. With the latter, he was given the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival, shared with Francisco Rabal. He also received two Goyas, one for El bosque animado and the other for La marrana. At the last Malaga Film Festival, Landa announced that, at age 74, he was retiring from the film set.
