Filming of Carne de Neon (Neon Flesh) is now in its fourth week. Joining the cast, led by young actors Mario Casas, Macarena Gomez and Blanca Suarez are long-time actors like Angela Molina (who is playing “Pura”, the mother of Mario’s character, who is “very funny and crazy”, in the words of the film’s director) and Antonio de la Torre (in the role of “Santos”, a police chief with a horrifying past).

The film experience of the young stars is very short but successful. For Mario Casas, this marks his fourth work in films, but without a doubt, two of his films thus far, Mentiras y Gordas (Sex, Party and Lies) and Fuga de Cerebros are, for the time being, two of the most seen films of the year. The character he plays in Carne de Neon is quite a challenge for the actor, as it is of a very extreme individual, a street kid with a difficult life. So, Mario has had to go deep into his character’s personality to reach that point where, from his expression, you don’t know what he’s going to do next.

As far as Cordoban actress Macarena Gomez (known for her work in the series “La que se avecina”), this is the second time she has worked with Paco Cabezas, script-writer for the first film she stared in, Sexykiller, which was such a hit for her. Blanca Suarez, who continues her success in the series “El Internado”, is doing her second film, so it’s quite an experience for her to be filming in Buenos Aires surrounded by such a spectacular cast and directed by Paco Cabezas.

Morena Films, one of Spain’s most important producers in the cinematographic market these days, has four feature films in production or pre-production at the moment, including Celda 211 (Cell 211) by Daniel Monzon, selected for the film festivals in Venice and Toronto, Room in Rome by Julio Medem in the post-production phase, Historias de amigos que se besan, a love story starring Unax Ugalde and new actor David Pinillos, and Tambien la lluvia, Iciar Bollain’s new film in the pre-production phase.
