It was, without a doubt, one of the biggest surprises of the day. Yesterday, President of the Spanish Government Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero anounced changes in his government and named Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde to be the new Minister of Culture.
For the celluloid world, thats great news. "Gonzalez-Sinde knows the regulations and the world of cinema inside and out, along with how the market operates", states the Spanish Audiovisual Producers Association. Directors, actors and producers havent stopped calling each other to celebrate the appointment.
" As a creator and as someone especially suitable to manage this task," stated President Rodriguez Zapatero. However, not everyone was overjoyed over this appointment. The Spanish Internet Users Association qualified it a "provocation" because it reflects a "determination to limit, reduce and criminalise access to culture. The new minister has never hidden her position against illegal downloads of content via the Internet. This is something which the Internet Users Association has been afraid of and it is finally taking measures to fight against this scourge on society, which is little by little killing culture in Spain.
