After the resounding success of this new initiative in previous years,
AniMadrid, the International Festival of the Animated Image of Pozuelo de Alarcon-Madrid Region, organised by the Office of Culture and Tourism of the Madrid Region and the Pozuelo de Alarcon Town Council, has held the
World Animation Day once again, organising a cinema night with some of the best animated short films made over the last few years. Thus, for several years running and thanks to AniMadrid, Spain has been able to participate in this celebration, held in 35 other countries, for example Canada, France, Argentina and the US. The event will take place on the Gran Via in Madrid at the Capitol cinema and will be presented by
Antonio Muñoz de Mesa, former Canal Plus presenter and director of the film
Amigos de Jesus. After his introduction a selection of prize-winning short films which have previously featured on the Animadrid screens under various categories will be shown. The underlying aim of World Animation Day AniMadrid is to emphasize not only Spains animation boom but also the fact that Spain is currently the home of some of the most creative animators in the world. The short films to be screened are:
Destino, by Dominique Monfery (2003, France-USA) - Destino is, basically, a love story which uses the images and symbolism of Dali to explore the nature of human relationships.
Adjustment, by Ian Mackinnon (2006, UK) A reporter seeks a ray of hope in a drama about technical and emotional obsession.
Der Kloane, by Andreas Hykade (2006, Germany) - "All right, I give you the smallest. But look after it properly and in a year youll have to kill it", said my uncle.
Ein Sonniger Tag, by Gil Alkabetz (2007, Germany) The sun rises, as it does every morning, but today it finds it isnt as welcome as it expected.
Liebeskrank, by Spela Cadez (2007, Germany-Slovenia) Heartbreak, tears which never cease and bewilderment are hard to treat but fortunately not incurable.
Zaniklý Svet Rukavic, by Jiri Barta (1982, Czech Republic) In an evocative sequence of scenes the hand-puppets [actores-guante] succeed in parodying seven film genres in fifteen minutes, starting with a Chaplin-style chase and ending with contemporary science fiction horror.
Violeta, la Pescadora del Mar Negro, by Marc Riba and Anna Solanas (2006, España) - Violeta likes fishing in the deepest, darkest regions of the sea. Invitations to come to this event are available in the Great Ways offices (c/ Lopez de Hoyos 9, 3º izda., Tel. 91 590 39 20).
