The makers of the original are preparing a sequel just as horror films are on the rise.
Horror films have never done better. In the United States, films like Paranormal Activity are blockbusters these days and 4th Kind is anxiously awaited. This fever for horror has made the creators of The Blair Witch Project want to take advantage of this trend and continue the saga.
In 2000 the second part of the hit film was made under the title of Book of Shadows: Blair Witch Project 2 , but it was a box office flop. Consequently, Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick, in charge of the project, said that they wouldnt be making a sequel to the second film, but rather a continuation of the original, as if "The Blair Witch Project 2" had never existed.
The duo, who are back to co-write and direct the new film, recently took a trip to the area where the first film was shot (half an hour away from Sanchezs home) to search for inspiration.
However, "the new project" will once again have the stars from the original film: Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams.
"We are just about ready to sign with Lionsgate, the company who has the rights to the film. Its up to them. They could hold things up or give us the green light", commented one of its creators. The Blair Witch Project premiered in 1999 with a budget of 500,000 dollars, and took in nearly 250 million worldwide.
