Antonio Banderas is convinced that Penelope Cruz will get the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the next Oscar awards ceremony, to be held on Sunday 22nd February. Ill jump for joy when they say her name, God willing, said the 49-year old actor from Malaga.
Banderas is sure his compatriot will win. He is one of her biggest supporters, and is getting up quite a campaign in her name. In fact, a few days ago he organised a lunch in Cruzs honour in his Los Angeles home. It was a week and a half ago, just before she left for the Goya awards, and I think she looked magnificent; relaxed, confident, happy and fulfilled, he claims.
There is no doubt that Cruz has much to thank Banderas for, as he was one of the first Spaniards to succeed in the competitive industry of Hollywood, paving the way for those to come. His debut was in 1992 with the film The Mambo Kings.
