With 4.59 million Euros in ticket sales in Spain, the film by Oscar-winning director James Cameron is the most seen film by Spanish audiences for the fourth consecutive week.

The touching love story that takes place in the middle of a war between aliens from the planet Pandora against the human race has captivated even the most critical film goers, thanks in part to some spectacular special effects which resulted in making the film the most expensive production of all time.

Second place on the week’s top ten list went to the Sarah Jessica Parker-Hugh Grant duo. The American and British actors, respectively, have struck gold with the romantic comedy Did You Hear About the Morgans?, which has taken in 1.27 million Euros in its first weekend. Meanwhile, third position went to the funny animation sequel Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakuel, which has managed hold on to it Christmas Holiday pull to bring in earnings of 765,325 Euros.

There was no hint of the film adaptation of the novel Solomon Kane dropping out of the top positions anytime soon. In its second week on the charts, it fell one position, but made a good showing with sales of 604,140 Euros. On the other hand, the debut of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans hasn’t convinced Spanish fans of the Seventh Art, as it could only reach fifth place with receipts of 584,447 Euros.

It’s Complicated continues to provide a sweet touch to the list of top box-office sellers. After three weeks, this simple romantic comedy which repeats the formula of other films by its director, Nancy Meyers, was still getting the applause of audiences, with earnings of 431,684 Euros.

The favourite film for the upcoming Goya Awards (with 16 nominations), Cell 211 [Celda 211 ], by young filmmaker Daniel Monzon, is well on its way to becoming one of the most successful Spanish productions in recent years. After ten weeks since its release, it took a respectable seventh place from revenues of some 300,897 Euros.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is losing steam now that Christmas is over and took eighth place with earnings of 298,545 Euros. Closing out the top ten were the eagerly-awaited return of the Cohen brothers, A Serious Man, and the Spanish super-production Planet 51, with earnings of 281,265 and 176,285 Euros, respectively.
