Inglourious Basterds has overtaken District 9 , earning 2.81 million euros and coming in at first place at the national box office. While its creators strolled down the red carpet at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the public came en masse to see their latest piece of cinematographic delirium, complete with the Tarantino stamp and the aura of a cult film.

The first film by Peter Jackson’s protege Neill Blomkamp, District 9, has fallen to second place with 865,932 euros, earning some 3.43 million in two weeks. Given that the movie had a budget of 30 million dollars and has brought in almost 110 million in the United States, that’s not at all bad for a beginner.

The horror film My Bloody Valentine 3D is placed third after earning 543,726 euros last weekend, making a total of 1.83 million so far.

The romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You falls to fourth place in its third week with 502,446 euros. This ensemble cast movie continues to attract attention despite its cliches and has brought in around 36.7 million in Spain to date.

In fifth position is Gordos , the film by Daniel Sanchez Arevalo, with 351,123 euros, making it the most seen Spanish film. Next comes Pixar’s latest production, UP , with 279,719 euros. This animated movie has been showing for eight weeks now and in Spain has earned a total of 13.46 million euros.

Seventh and eighth places are taken by wacky, laddish comedies: The Hangover and Year One . The former has been showing in cinemas for six weeks and has brought in 5.85 million so far, including 243,495 this weekend, while the latter has earned 2.60 million, with 207.702 euros over the weekend.

Finally, Case 39 is in ninth place with 168,754 euros, having earned a total of 2.32 million in four weeks, followed by Aliens in the Attic with 145,766, which over the last six weeks has amassed a total of 3.33 million.
