Cameron Diaz is about to premiere in My Sisters Keeper , in which she plays a mother whose daughter has terminal cancer. This role for Diaz is a way to reinvent herself and is a departure from the roles shes had as a naive, fun-loving girl.

Cameron has lots of experience in comedies, but now she is taking on a drama of defining proportions. Im not going to be a simple-minded 23-year-old girl again, Diaz says, adding, If I continue doing that, Ill be unhappy. I wont be making films which support my self-esteem. I must do that for my personal growth and to give something to the audience.

A month ago, Cameron said that she identified completely with her character, Sara Fitzgerald, in spite of not being a mother. Diaz said, I believe everyone would give all for the person they truly loved and would do whatever it takes to keep that person alive. Thats what makes the film so effective, the actress added.
