Film number 33 by Eastwood as director is about to begin its commercial life. For the moment, it now has an official poster. Based on a book by journalist John Carlin (The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World ), the film revolves around the efforts of the South African leader to take his country to the Rugby World Cup, after years of being excluded from the official competitions due to Apartheid.
Actor Morgan Freeman, who has already worked with Eastwood in Million Dollar Baby , will be Nelson Mandela in a performance that would at least in due course earn him an Oscar nomination. Joining him in the cast will be Matt Damon in the role of Francois Pienaar, captain of the South African rugby team and the man who worked shoulder to shoulder with Mandela to end racial prejudice on the team and thus give an example to the whole country.
The title Eastwood chose comes from the title of a poem by English dramatist William Ernest Henley, which gave Mandela inspiration during his long years in prison.
The film, which will be released in the United States in the month of December, will have its Spanish debut on January 29, 2009.
