Gran Torino, when released in the USA, brought in higher earnings than any other film by the legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood, and has just done the same in Spain, becoming the box-office hit last weekend. The film crossed the 2.1 million euro mark after being shown in Spanish cinemas for just a few days.
In the United States, where it was released on 9 January, the film has earned 139 million dollars, and this figure is still going up. Box-office income in the US makes this film the biggest hit directed and/or starred in by Eastwood, including films like In the Line of Fire ($102 million), the Oscar-winning Unforgiven ($101 million), Million Dollar Baby ($100 million), Space Cowboys ($90 million), Every Which Way But Loose ($85 million), Mystic River ($90 million) and The Bridges of Madison County ($71.5 million).
