The duo composed of Denzel Washington and John Travolta were more than a match for the almighty Harry Potter franchise. It was a close thing in terms of box-office takings but it was The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 which rose to first place in the Spanish cinema Top Ten. This movie, which tells the story of the hijacking of a New York subway carriage, earned 1,504,542 euros.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince falls to second place with 1,335,985 euros. This film has already grossed a total of 10,249,671 euros, a considerable sum if you consider that it has only been out for two weeks.
Still going strong is the animated film Ice Age 3 in both third and fourth place, for the normal version and in 3D respectively. This weekend the film took 1,140,887 euros and in total has earned 18 million euros.
Sandra Bullock goes down to fifth place with The Proposal , earning just 333,156 euros, a quantity which highlights the big gap between the earnings of the top four films and the following productions.
Amid so much competition, the Hispano-Italian horror film, Imago Mortis , should be more than satisfied with its sixth place and takings of 218,628 euros; as should the comedy How to Lose Friends & Alienate People with 211,233 euros.
Next, after nine weeks in cinemas, Millenium: Part 1 Men Who Hate Women is still in the Top Ten of most seen films and has brought in a total of 7,394,097 euros. And bringing up the rear are the Italian comedy Ex with 152,662 euros and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt with 152,662 euros.
