District 9 got off to a great start with its Spanish premiere. This film combining science fiction with such a controversial topic as racism raked in 1,927,616 euros in its first week, being one of the best film debuts of the year. It arrives with rave reviews and the public seems to agree with the critics.

Another premiere came in second place of the most-seen films in Spain last week. It’s an update of the classic My Bloody Valentine , which this time is projected in 3D. The film has earned 965,260 euros.

With so much competition, the comedy He’s Just Not That Into You had to settle for 3rd place at 788,665 euros. It was followed by the unstoppable Up, with 457,631 euros in earnings in its third week in Spanish cinemas.

The Spanish film Gordos , which had a grand reception at the Venice Film Festival, came in fifth place in its first week on the big screen in Spain. Directed by Daniel Sanchez Arevalo, it had earnings of 397,601 euros.

Sixth place went to one of the season’s smash hits, Hangover . The wild bachelor party of a thirty-something continued to win over audiences, with the feature film taking in a grand total so far of more than five million euros after five weeks in Spanish cinemas.

Seventh place was held by Year One (292,304 euros), a comedy starring Jack Black and Michael Cera, followed by Public Enemies .

Case 39 was in ninth place, with 251,984 euros in box-office receipts. Closing out the Top Ten list was Gamer, at 249,923 euros.
