The Swiss film Sounds of Insects , by Peter Liechti, has won the European Film Award for Best Documentary 2009, according to reports from the European Film Academys headquarters in Berlin. The prize, which is presented in collaboration with the cultural television station ARTE, was awarded by a Jury composed of Franco-Georgian director Nino Kirtadze, Austrian producer Franz Grabner and Russian documentary maker Viktor Kossakovski.
The European Film Academy states that the award-winning film was selected out of ten finalists after its screening at a meeting held in Vilna at the invitation of the Lithuanian authorities. Swiss filmmaker Peter Liechti will receive his prize at the Awards Ceremony of the 22nd edition of the European Film Awards, which will take place on 12 December in Bochum, in western Germany.
