The news has come no doubt as a great surprise. 34-year-old actress Drew Barrymore is very interested in directing part three of the Twilight saga, which will be called Eclipse, the same name as the book on which it is based. The films producers continue to float various names, among them Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona, who had his feature film debut with the hit The Orphanage, which has received numerous awards.
Media specializing in the film industry, such as Hollywood Reporter, have placed their bets on the Spanish director, who they consider "an expert on the genre" and, furthermore has the backing of Guillermo del Toro. At the moment, Bayona is working on the Universal Studios thriller Hater, a film based on a novel by the same name about an epidemic of violent homicides (in the style of The Happening) whereby a society of perfectly normal citizens is shaken up.
Meanwhile, Chris Weitz, director of the second entry in this series, The Twighlight Saga: New Moon , is working with the actors in Vancouver. Weitz, who has replaced Catherine Hardwicke, is committed to at least bringing in higher earnings than the first part. His instalment is due to premiere in November 2009 while Eclipse will arrive in Spanish cinemas in June 2010.
