El Capitan Trueno Now Has Stars for the Lead Roles

The film adaptation of the legendary Spanish comic El Capitan Trueno will star actors Alex Gonzalez and Elsa Pataky and athlete Manuel Martinez. The provisional title of the film is El Capitan Trueno y el Santo Grial and in the film, Gonzalez, known for his parts in Segundo Asalto and Luz de Domingo, will play the title role 12th-century Catalonian knight. Manuel Martinez, Spanish shot put champion, will play the lumberjack Goliat, faithful friend to Capitan Trueno, who, in spite of his frightful appearance, is noted for his kindness and modesty, while Pataky will be his girlfriend Sigrid, the Queen of Thule.

The director of Guerreros, Daniel Calparsoro, is in charge of directing this film produced by Maltes Producciones, Sorolla Films, TVE, Canal Plus, and Walt Disney Motion Pictures Iberia. It has a budget reaching 15 million euro.

"I’ve begged Pedro Almodovar to take me on and he always says, ‘yes, yes, yes’, but he never calls me. So, if anyone has any kind of influence over him, I beg them, please, to exercise it,” stated the actress at a press conference to present a campaign against mistreatment of women in which she has taken a leading role.

For Thompson, the director of Broken Embraces [Los Abrazos Rotos ] is one of the best in his field and she says she has always wanted to work under his direction. In fact, she even has a clear idea of the role she would like to play in the film.

"He said he could do a film about a mad Englishwoman living in Spain, but he’s still not done it, so I’ll have to go to Madrid and threaten him. If friendly persuasion doesn’t work, I’ll have to resort to violence,” the British star jokes.

Emma Thompson won the Oscar for Best Actress in Howard’s End in 1992 and Best Adapted Screenplay for Sense and Sensibility in 1995. Furthermore, she has performed in other hit films like The Remains of the Day and Love Actually.
