Adding to the lucrative business of adapting comics to cinema, the film industry in the Valencia Region city of Alicante is putting together the large project of El Capitan Trueno , legendary hero of the comic book series, which has been published for more than 40 years now.

After many months of a rigorous audition process for the lead role, finally, Alex Gonzalez has been selected for the part in the film having the participation of TVE and Disney. Gonzalez, a young actor at age 29, is known for his roles in TV series like Un paso adelante and Hospital Central , although he has also participated in the films Una rosa de Francia by Manuel Gutierrez Aragon, and Segundo asalto [The Good Boy ] by Daniel Cebrian, a performance which earned Gonzalez a nomination for a Goya Award.

Apart from Alex, Elsa Pataky is confirmed to play Sigrid, giving lots of media attention to what will be a grand super-production of Valencia Region cinema. Daniel Calparsoro is in charge of the making of a large part of the project, which has a budget of 11 million euros and will start filming towards the end of the eyar at Alicante’s Ciudad de la Luz studios.

"Captain Trueno had to be Spanish", states Pau Vergara of Maltes Producciones, producer and scriptwriter for the film. "It would be difficutl to comprehend a Spanish hero played by a foreign actor and Alex is going to do a great job," adds the main producer of the project. Antonio Mansilla, of Sorolla Films, shares that view, saying, "We wanted to make a film with a Spanish hero but with an international career."

In addition, Sorolla Films and Maltes Producciones have confirmed the participation of TVE and distribution by Walt Disney Motion Pictures Iberia for Spain and with first option for the U.S.A., the United Kingdom, and Australia. Disney will also be distributing the DVD/Blue Ray in Spain. It should be noted that the film has already been pre-sold to more than 53 countries at various international film markets like Cannes and Berlin.
