The project which the producer Andres Vicente Gomez (Manolete ) has had up his sleeve for years was going to be directed by Agustin Villaronga, but due to scheduling problems, finally it will be the filmmaker Sigfrid Monleon (director of the documentary El ultimo truco) who is to take on the job. Leading the cast is actor Jordi Molla (the name Guillermo Toledo was also initially mentioned), accompanied by model Bimba Bose and Alex Brendemuhl, who is to play the writer Juan Marse.
El consul de Sodoma portrays of the life of Jaime Gil de Biedma (1929-1990), one of the most influential poets of the second half of the 20th century. His life was the incarnation of a contradiction: on the one hand, he belonged to the upper bourgeoisie and was an executive in a large multinational; on the other, through his poetic and homosexual facets, he rebelled against his family environment and his background. Sex, love, literature and political struggle characterise a life which encompasses a period of rebellion, violence and discovery.
The film is also a portrait of Barcelona in the sixties, populated by emblematic personalities from progressive Catalonian society, known as the Divine Left. The script, based on the biography "Jaime Gil de Biedma" by Miguel Dalmau, was written by Joaquin Gorriz and Miguel Angel Fernandez (directors and scriptwriters of Isi&Disi Amor a lo bestia ) and Sigfrid Monleon himself.
