Producers, exhibitors and distributors are combining forces to boost box-office sales, which have fallen by 25% in the last four years. To do so, they have organized a Film Fiesta where film-goers who buy a ticket at the normal price on Sunday, June 21 will get a discount pass to any film theatre and show time for two euros, good for three days, Sunday, June 21st, Monday, June 22nd and Tuesday, June 23rd.
Participating in this particular fiesta are 321 cinemas with 2,860 screens across Spain (95% of the market). For the Director of the Spanish Instituto de la Cinematografia y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) [Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts], Ignasi Guardans, this initiative is "deeply satisfying" and an "historic" event. At the same time, it is "impressive" as a "display of unity" of the entire cinematographic sector.
"What counts least is the financial gain", stated FAPAE President, Pedro Perez, for whom what really matters is for the public to develop the "ritual" of getting out of the house and going to the cinema. With the film fiesta, they can see any film for 2 euros. It is planned to make this a yearly event.
