Mickey Rourke plays Whiplash, the villain of the multi-million dollar sequel to Iron Man .

Several American media have this week published the first still of Mickey Rourke in the role of the new baddy from Iron Man 2 , Whiplash. In the photo we can see the actor in the middle of a shoot at the historic Monaco Grand Prix.

The movie, directed by Jon Favreau, is due to be released in May 2010 and will also star Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson.

The character played by Rourke carries a power pack on his chest, similar to that sported by Iron Man. The technologies are definitely related, thats part of the core theme of the film, says the director. The villains alter ego, Ivan Vanko, is a Russian who according to the director has constructed his own version of the suit".
