For the third week in a row, the film directed by and starring Clint Eastwood continues to be the most-seen film in Spanish cinemas. Gran Torino is his first film role since his Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby . Eastwood plays Walt Kowalski, a stubborn iron-willed Korean War veteran living in an ever-changing world, who is forced by his immigrant neighbors to confront old prejudices. The film earned 1,228,397 euros last weekend for an accumulated total of 6,475,874.

Second place went to Pedro Almodovar and his starlet, Penelope Cruz , with Los abrazos rotosBroken Embraces ’] . The film has been one of the most anticipated of the year, but had to settle for the silver medal in Spanish box-office earnings with 978,046 euros.

In third was Marley & Me. While in the US the film starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson has beat out the all-powerful The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in Spain it hasn’t been so fortunate and had 799,967 euros in ticket sales.

Julia Roberts’ return to the big screen has made a poor showing so far with so much competition and Duplicity had to settle for fourth place at 781,767 euros. It was followed by Bedtime Stories with 622,481 euros.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans dropped to sixth place with 571,103 euros.

In seventh place was the big Oscar-winner Slumdog Millionaire , a film which last week took in 532,506 euros. Trailing it was the comedy Hotel for Dogs, with 324,611 euros.

Watchmen has shown itself to be a failure at the Spanish box-office. After three weeks in cinemas, it is on the verge of dropping off the Top Ten at ninth place with 265,119 euros. Closing out the list is the film co-starring Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman, The Code, a film about thieves planning a heist.
