As an initiative of the NGO Intermon Oxfam (a member of Oxfam International), preparations for the 4th Edition of the Actua 2009 International Short Film Festival are underway in which short films from around the world will be participating. In previous editions, more than 100 productions from all five continents were shown during the contest in 30 Spanish cities.
The theme of this years Actua Festival is access to education, as a fundamental right in eradicating poverty. With the slogan "Sin educacion, la vida es toda una pelicula" [Without Education, Life Isnt Real], seminars are being held in which participants can reflect on children not having access to education due to conflicts, migrations, beliefs or cultural considerations, and how this limits possibilities for a decent life and a better future.
The Festival will also be a communications tool for the international campaign "For All", which aims to obtain schooling and quality instruction for the worlds poorest countries with subsidies to more than 2 million teachers.
Leading film professionals from around the world such as Imanol Arias, Luis Tosar, Javier Fesser, Jose Luis Cuerda and Pilar Bardem, have contributed to this initiative in past editions.
