Serbian director Emir Kusturica had been talking to Brad Pitt for him to star in the film adaptation of the novel "The Friends of Pancho Villa" by James Carlos Blake. The film, which will be titled "Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman with Six Fingers", tells the story of the famous Mexican revolutionary, who shook up a whole country to fight against the dictatorship of Victoriano Huerta in a civil war which lasted more than ten years and cost the lives of more than a third of Mexicos population in the early 20th century.
According to "Variety", Depp couldnt start shooting the film until 2011 due to his other professional commitments, among which is the filming of the fourth part of Pirates of the Caribbean. His co-star could be Mexican actress Salma Hayek, although her participation in the project is not yet certain.
This would be the first Hollywood film for the maker of films like Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, and Black Cat, White Cat. As with the majority of his films, returning to collaborate in the screenplay will be the virtually inseparable Gordan Mihic.
