Johnny Depp will be playing Tonto in the film The Lone Ranger but, according to the producers, they still dont know who will direct it. This means that the shooting of Pirates of the Caribbean, part four, could be delayed, although Bruckheimer (producer of the saga) is aware of the importance of the franchise. "It's a great franchise for them (Walt Disney) and for us, too," he said. "A beloved character and Johnny's really excited about coming back to Captain Jack. He certainly is interested in Tonto, but Disney's priority is to get 'Pirates' made first. You never know what's going to happen, but they would like it."
The script of part four is already in the pipeline: The scriptwriters of the first three films, Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, are writing the new one as we speak. As for the director, no-one knows, as now that Gore Verbinsky has decided not to direct a film based on the video game BioShock, he has a little time on his hands and could go back behind the cameras to make the latest Pirates episode. He created the franchise so we'd love to have him back, but it's kind of up to him.
As for The Lone Ranger, they are still looking for a director whom both the producers and Walt Disney like. What Bruckheimer did make clear is that it wont be Mike Newell, who is currently directing the producers latest project, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
