The actor has become the richest in American film history after taking in 56 million dollars for his participation in the fourth part of Pirates of the Caribbean.

The contract for Depp to star in the film to be titled On Stranger Tides has one of the highest dollar figures in the history of Hollywood, topping amounts paid to other performers like Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, or Tom Hanks. But, the payout the Sleepy Hollow star will receive could go even higher if the film becomes as big a hit as its predecessors.

Disney has agreed to pay Depp this multi-million dollar figure, as the poster of the next adventure of the Pirates saga wont have Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, the other two protagonists of the story, on it with him.

In spite of all this upheaval, Geoffrey Rush is confirmed once again to play the role of Captain Barbossa. However, director Rob Marshall informed the British newspaper ´The Daily Telegraph´ that Penelope Cruz may replace Keira Knightley for the role of Elizabeth Swan.
