The second annual Madrid de Cine screenings is generating loyal customers. There were 580 accredited attendees, 56 titles shown at the Princesa Cinemas in Madrid, 117 showings in cinema theatres, some two dozen European journalists, and numerous copyright sales and starts to business negotiations. The second "Madrid de Cine - Spanish Film Screenings" ended on Tuesday, 12th June after three days of a showcase presentation of Spanish cinema, with 138 buyers on-hand from 33 countries. Attending for the first time this year were the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Venezuela, and there were 30% more buyers compared to last year showing their preferences for Spanish cinema. The most seen films in the cinema theatres this year were (in this order): XXY, La crisis carnivora, "El club de los suicidas", "Madrigal" and "La carta esferica". In the film library, the most popular were "La caja", "Pudor" and "Bajo las estrellas". For the European press, the films generating the most interest were "AzulOscuroCasi Negro", "El menor de los Males" and "Vete de mi". And, foreign journalists discovered Daniel Sanchez Arevalo, Antonio de la Torre and Jordi Molla. In the words of "Time Out", "these days have been a wonderful immersion into Spanish cinema". For vendors "Madrid de Cine" enabled "creation of loyal customers and achieving better knowledge of Spanish cinema" (Sogepaq). Furthermore, "Purchasing companies are very well represented, thus maximizing the time spent in meetings (6 Sales). According to information from the vendors themselves, some of the first sales were: four Filmax titles to Paradiso Filmed Entertainment (Belgium); "Fados" to Lev Films&Cinema (Israel), "Yo soy la Juani" to Greece, "Soñar no cuesta nada" to Quality films (Mexico), "La crisis carnivora" to Argentina, "Fuerte Apache" to Israel, "Pudor" to Italy and Turkey (this last title, "¿Por que se frotan las patitas?" and "Cabeza de perro" to Turkey being from Irfan Films, which has started negotiations for other titles). In addition, negotiations were begun, such as those of Latido for "Oculto" with Singapore, and Filmfaxs "Transiberia", also with Singapore. For Italy: Lola Films "Teresa, el cuerpo de Cristo", Latidos "El club de los suicidas" and Filmfaxs "Lola". For Turkey, negotiations were opened for four titles (three of Filmax and one of Coach 14), "El club de los suicidas", "El menor de los males" (Imagina) and "Una mujer invisible" (Latido). Two titles are also being negotiated with Denmark another two with South Korea, three with the United Kingdom, and thee with Latin America (RTVEs "Concursante", Latidos "Abrigate", and "El menor de los males"). For Hungarian television: AZ Cinemas "Love me", RTVEs "La Carta esferica", and El Retiros "Lola" and "Oscar, el color del destino". "Yo soy la Juani" (Media films) and "Oscar, el color del destino" are being negotiated with the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, "La carta esferica" with Greece, "Fados" with Argentina, Mexico, Switzerland and Italy, "La buena vida" with France and Switzerland", "Abrigate" with Hungary, "El Club de los suicidas" and "De Profundis" with Russia, "Ciudad en celo" with the United States, Loco fighters "Zulo, and "Honor de caballeria" with Germany and Switzerland, "XXY" with Norway and Israel; "Oscar, el color del destino" and "La Sombra de nadie" for Germany and "Tirant lo Blanc" with two Japanese companies and one South Korean. "Madrid de Cine" is a commercial and cultural event, the aims of which are to sell Spanish cinema and promote it in the press.
