Spanish film producer Filmax announced yesterday that filming had begun of The Way , a film which takes place on the Camino de Santiago [the Way of St. James] and will star Martin Sheen and his son, Emilio Estevez, which they are both also directing.
According to the statement by the producer, the film is largely being shot on the so-called Camino Frances [the French Road], and in the cities and towns of Roncesvalles, Pamplona, Logroño, Burgos, Leon, Villafranca del Bierzo and in the Spanish Region of Galicia. Filming began last Monday in Saint Jean Pied de Port (France).
In addition to Martin Sheen and his son, the cast will consist of Deborah Kara Unger (The Game ) and James Nesbitt (Bloody Sunday ), among others, along with Spanish actors Simon Andreu, Angela Molina, Eusebio Lazaro and, from Galicia, Carlos Leal.
The Way is the story of Tom Avery, a reputed Californian ophthalmologist who one day receives a call from France informing him that his son Daniel has died in a storm in the Pyrenees Mountains. Although the relationship between them wasnt close, a distraught Tom travels to France and finds out that his son had died when he was starting his journey on the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela. So, the father decides to complete the journey.
