The British film Moon seems to have shone at Sitges, the Fantasy and Horror Film Festival of Catalonia. Apart from the Award for Best Motion Picture, the film also won the Award for Best Screenplay. Writer Nathan Parkers script was based on a story by the director himself, Duncan Jones, son of singer David Bowie. Sam Rockwells performance as the hero earned him a prize and the production design was also a winner.
The only representative of Spain to win a prize was Elena Anaya, who obtained the Best Actress Award for her performance in , though she had to share it with Kim Ok-vin for her role in Thirst . Anaya, from Palencia, who appears in 95% of the shots in Hierro , plays a mother who loses her son on a desolate, rocky island. The producers of the film - directed by newcomer Gabe Ibañez - also brought us the hits The Orphanage and Pans Labyrinth , and hope to have a similar success with this drama.
The audience decided to award their prize to the comedy Zombieland , the first film by Ruben Fleischer, which is having great success in the USA. Last of the Official Fantastic Selection is the Award for Best Makeup Effects, which went to Kaatje Van Damme for her work on Mr. Nobody and the Award for Best Special Effects, presented to KNB EFX Group for Splice .
