Next Saturday, at the 1st Spanish Filmmakers Gathering, an event will take place in Madrids Plaza Mayor organised by the Spanish Short Film Agency (with the acronym ACE in Spanish). Also invited to join the event are the general director of the ICCA (the Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts), Ignasi Guardans, and the chairperson of the Spanish Film Academy, Alex de la Iglesia, to show their support for Spanish short films.
Among the 120 filmmakers which have confirmed their attendance are Jose Esteban Alenda (Goya Award for Best Anuimation Short Film 2008), Angel Loza (Goya Award for Best Documentary Short Film 2008) and Hector Aguero Lauten ( Goya Award 2008 for El truco del manco ).
The event will include the taking of a family photo ('The Photo of the Short Film') in The Spanish capital citys Plaza Mayor, where people from the various audiovisual sectors connected to short filmmaking will gather, such as directors, script-writers, actors, producers, technicians, and festival directors. They aim to "make it clear to the general public that the Spanish short film exists," and that it is "the foundation of Spanish cinema."
As Miguel Angel Escudero, ACE manager, explains, the short film "is a type of film which is appreciated by the public at-large, for its freshness and the large quantity of original stories". Escudero recalls filmmakers like Eduardo Chapero-Jackson or Daniel Sanchez Arevalo continually giving statements in support of this type of film.
