As was expected, the New Moon twilight vampires have made history. Since their premiere in cinemas last Wednesday, November 18, the bloodsuckers from the hit saga have exceeded 10 million euros in earnings, a never-before- reached figure in Spain.
In second place was 2012 , the Apocalyptic film by Roland Emmerich, which continues to awe audiences with receipts three times less than the stunningly successful vampire film, but still nothing to turn your nose up at: a cool 2.82 million euros. It was followed by Cell 211 [Celda 211 ] , the surprise hit of the year, which has surpassed Agora with revenues of 1.02 million euros last weekend.
The 3D and standard versions of A Christmas Carol remain in the top 5, with figures reaching 787,000 and 561,000 in each case. It was a poor start for Amelia , though, the biopic on famous aviator Amelia Earhart starring Richard Gere and Hillary Swank, which hasnt taken hold with the public, and got in at a modest sixth place with 518,000 euros in box office collections.
After various weeks leading the ranking, Amenabar and his Agora are gradually dropping off, with earnings of 417,000 euros in the films seventh week in Spanish cinemas. Hachiko: A Dogs Story held eighth place with 265,000 euros.
Five weeks after its cinema debut, Flickan som lekte med elden [The Girl Who Played with Fire ] is holding on and managed to keep the ninth slot it had last week with 192,000 euros in ticket sales. Finally, the cooking skills of Julie & Julia are at the risk of departing the top ten all-together, without ever having really caught on, with receipts of 168,000 euros.
