On 15th November, the 9th Certamen de Cortos Ciudad de Soria-Castilla y Leon [City of Soria – Castile & Leon Short Film Contest] is opening with premiere film-format projections and celebrity attendees. The Soria model Maria Reyes is in charge of presenting the gala featuring a very special guest, actor Juan Diego Botto, who is visiting Soria to support young film-makers. A humorous note will be given by the monologist of Paramount Comedy Miguel Lago. This year, the event will pay tribute to Jose Luis Borau, an indispensable witness to the history of Spanish cinema and a man totally devoted to the Seventh Art. Director, scriptwriter, producer, actor, writer, and publisher, Borau has dared to take on such challenging positions as the chairmanships of the Spanish Film Academy and the SGAE organization. Please remember, as well, that the day before the official opening of the festival, the Exposicion "Yvonne Blake viste a Carmen", [the “Yvonne Blake Dressed as Carmen” Exhibition] gets underway, with costumes from the Vicente Aranda film on display at the Centro Cultural Gaya Nuño. Among other additions to the festival, the Soria Short Film Contest is launching its new website, with a brighter design from which texts and photographs can be downloaded. It also includes a specific polling for selection of the public choice award, in which votes will be tabulated at the end of each film screening. The closing ceremony will take place at an emblematic place in Soria, the Circulo de la Amistad Numancia, with a live concert by Soria Yazz!.
