The Mostra de Venezia, one of the worlds most important cinematographic events, which is holding its 64th festival from 29th August to 8th September, will have a notable Spanish presence. En la ciudad de Sylvia, by Jose Luis Guerin, is in the running for the Venezia 64 Golden Lion, along with 21 other titles (two of them with minority Spanish participation). Die Stille vor Bach (The Silence Before Bach), by Pere Portabella, will be in the Orizzonti line-up. In the Out of Competition category, REC, by Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero, and Nocturna, by Adria Garcia and Victor Maldonado, will be shown in Venezia Notte. Also, Alumbramiento, by Eduardo Chapero-Jackson, is competing in the Biennale Corto Cortissimo (short films) selection.
