Based on the novel of the same name by Scott Anderson,
Triage tells the story a photojournalist, played by Farrell, who spends twelve years away from home working in conflict zones, such as Kurdistan. Tired of battle, he goes back home to Ireland to his long-suffering wife (Paz Vega) but without his colleague and friend Colin, who has mysteriously disappeared.
After filming, Farrell commented that working on the other side of the camera has been a very rewarding experience and observed that he has a great respect for the work of photojournalists, especially when, like himself in the film, they return home exhausted, disorientated and unable to readjust to normal life. As for Tanovic, he claims to be delighted with the evolution of the shoot and stresses that the best thing about directing is working with actors who are very committed to the film, just as these have been.
After six years of hard work, the Bosnian director has managed to reflect, in this work, his own experience of filming on the Sarajevo front, and how this affected his life and his way of thinking during and after the conflict.
Locations in Ireland and the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante were chosen for filming. The cast also features veteran Christopher Lee, last seen playing the evil Saruman in the
Lord of the Rings trilogy.
