On 13 July shooting of filmmaker Paco Cabezas second feature film started, during which the props had to include anti swine flu masks due to the red alert declared in Argentina over the last few days. This filmmaker is known in the film world for his feature-length film The Appeared and his award-winning short Carne de neon, on which this longer film is based. The new version is being shot now in Buenos Aires, featuring Mario Casas, Angela Molina, Macarena Gomez, Blanca Suarez and Argentinian actors Dario Grandinetti and Luciano Caceres.
Neon Flesh tells the story of Ricky (Mario Casas) who, after being abandoned at the age of 12, survives in the world of petty crime, prostitutes, pimps and junkies. When he is 23, and his mother Pura (Angela Molina) is about to be released from jail, Ricky decides to set up the HIROSHIMA CLUB, where she could work as the manager and leave her past as a prostitute behind. But Ricky has to confront the past of a mother who dumped him years ago, and the profound feelings of a son fighting to win back his mothers affection and love.
The movie, which promises to be a fast, fresh young comedy, with plenty of action, crazy nights and colourful characters, is being produced by Morena Films in co-production with Jaleo Films, Oberon Cinematografica, Mandarin Films (France), Hepp Films (Sweden) and Pensa&Rocca (Argentina). It also has the support of FORTA and of EURIMAGES (European co-production fund), and will be shot in Spain and Argentina over 9 weeks, with a budget of 3 million euros.
