Neither Quentin Tarantino nor Brad Pitt were able to hold on to their first place after the release of REC 2 . The film by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza was one of the most eagerly-anticipated horror films of the year, and the proof of it was in the whopping 2,140,455 euros it took in, becoming the best Spanish debut of the year.
Consequently, Inglourious Basterds dropped into second place. But, it must be said that it has obtained excellent results, with a total of 7,675,035 euros in sales at the box-office in the three weeks its been in cinemas.
Among the chart toppers is also Vicky the Viking [Wickie und die starken Manner ], the screen adaptation of this popular character, which was well received by audiences and took in 1,115,495 euros in its premiere week. Fourth place was held by the futuristic action film Surrogates (863,045 euros), starring Bruce Willis, followed by Whatever Works (789,264 euros), Woody Allens latest, with which he returns to New York.
Sixth place went to Campanellas film, The Secret in their Eyes [El secreto en sus ojos ], starring Ricardo Darin, which had good reviews at the San Sebastian Film Festival in spite of not taking any awards. On its heels was District 9 , with a total of 4.5 million euros in Spain and 115 million dollars in the U.S., confirming it as one of the top new films of the season.
Megan Fox and her Jennifer´s Body had to settle for eight place in its second week in cinemas, with 250,169 euros. It was followed by the documentary Oceanworld 3D, at 198,336 euros in earnings. Closing out the list was the comedy Hes Just Not That Into You, a film which has now been in the Top Ten for five weeks and has had box-office receipts of 4,376,252 in total.
