When, two years ago, directors Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza appeared at Sitges carrying their film REC, little did they imagine the huge success their film would achieve. Now, two years later, after it has become a world-wide box-office hit, Plaza and Balaguero are back at the festival which saw the birth of the REC phenomenon, to inaugurate it with the long-awaited sequel. The second movie picks up events a quarter of an hour after the first film ends: just 15 minutes have passed since the batteries of that TV camera failed; 15 minutes have elapsed since the last images were recorded for the Programme While You Sleep in the infected building. Outside, a curious crowd gathers behind the area cordoned off by the Special Forces. Television reporters are clamouring to find out what is going on

The Opening Ceremony of the Festival, on 2nd October, will feature the screening of REC2 attended by its directors, Balaguero and Plaza, as well as producer Julio Fernandez. The film will be released in cinemas on 9th October.
