"Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying... in sweat. This is the phrase with which the tough dance teacher, played by Debbie Allen, welcomed her students at the New York City School of Performing Arts. Their escapades and acrobatics were portrayed in the film Fame , directed in 1980 by Allan Parker. The soundtrack won two Oscars, for Best Original Song and Best Score, and generated an extremely popular television series.
The remake of Fame is due to arrive in Spain in October and, like the original, will follow the adventures of a gifted group of dancers, singers, actors and artistes from various disciplines, throughout their four years at the New York City School of Performing Arts, where they are given the opportunity to make their dreams come true and pursue fame. However, this is the kind of fame which comes from nothing less than talent, dedication and sheer hard work. In an atmosphere of fierce competition, plagued by their own insecurities, the students will be subjected to some gruelling tests before they can achieve their ambitions. While they work to attain their goals they will also experience stormy friendships and passionate romances. With the support of their friends and fellow-performers they will discover which of them really possess the talent required to achieve fame.
The film features relatively little-known young actors who have appeared in the most popular television series in the USA: Asher Book (Medium), Kristy Flores (Gossip Girl), Kay Panabaker (C.S.I.), Collins Pennie (Law & Order), Walter Perez (The Closer). Amongst the teachers we will find Debbie Allen and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier). This film represents the directing debut of the choreographer and dancer Kevin Tancharoen.
