Zombie film master George A. Romero presented Survival of the Dead yesterday in Venice. The quite gory film is competing for the Golden Lion Award.
This is the sixth film in the saga and is about a group of soldiers who flee to an island which promises to be the only place on the planet where they can escape the zombies, who feed on human flesh and can appear out of nowhere.
In other news, Il grande sogno by Michele Placido, was also shown yesterday in Venice. The Italian director has put to the bog screen his personal life-story, focusing on 1968 when, after participating in the repression of student protesters as a police officer, he left the security forces and joined them. His alter ego in the film is played by Riccardo Scamarcio.
The third film presented in competition was Zanan-e bedun-e mardan [Women Without Men ], by Iranian filmmaker Shirin Neshat. This film presents the struggle of three women for their freedom during the time of the Sha of Iran.
