The Madrid Region is opening its 11th Short Film Week, an annual festival which has become a must for short film professionals and enthusiasts. The Madrid Regional Council, the Circulo de Bellas Artes, the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, the Madrid Athenaeum, the Moncloa District Council, Golem Cinemas, the French Embassy, the Mexican Embassy and the IES Puerta Bonita Audiovisual and Graphics School are collaborating in their support for this festival.
The Short Film Screenings is kicking off the 11th Short Film Week on Tuesday 10th March at 19:00. At these screenings the following works are being shown: Di me que yo, by Mateo Gil; Uyuni, by Zac & Mac; La cancion del pirata, by Raul Cornejo, Patricia Guisado, Antonio Isardo, Pablo Molina, Lohegrin Navarro, Manuel Nieves, Jesus Quesada y Alejandro Viera; Una vida mejor, by Luis Fernandez Reneo; and The End, by the prize-winner Eduardo Chapero-Jackson.
Until 13th March four sessions of screenings are being held daily, subsidised by the Madrid Region. The films are grouped into two blocks shown twice per day. One will be shown at 17:30 and at 20:45; the other at 19:00 and 22:30. On Saturday 14th a last session will take place, starting at 20:45. Attending these sessions will be a director or members of the cast or crew, who are giving brief presentations of the works to the audience.
Also starting on Tuesday are other activities, beginning with a workshop on making video clips, one of the great new features offered this year. This event has free admission, subject to seating capacity, being held in the Assembly hall (Salon de actos) of the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism (la Consejeria de Cultura, Deporte y Turismo) (C/Alcala 31), from 11:00AM to 2:00PM.
On Wednesday 11 March at 12:30, the conference on technological advances New cameras, new formats, organised by the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism in collaboration with the IES, is being held at the IES Puerta Bonita school (C/ Padre Amigo, 5). Those wishing to attend will need to sign up there from 11:30.
Another new item included in the Short Film Week programme is the First Meeting of Film and Video Schools of the Madrid Region, taking place on Thursday 12 March at 11:00 at the Madrid Athenaeum (C/ Prado 21). This event is held in collaboration with the Short Film Coordinator with the main objective of getting to know the place schools hold within the short film industry.
On the same day, the fourth Professional Meeting of producers and scriptwriters is being held. From 16:00 in the Assembly Hall of the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, the authors of the ten works chosen will have the possibility of presenting their scripts in public to audiovisual production companies with the aim of attracting interest in their projects.
