The most international of fantasy and horror film festivals begins its programme with REC 2.

The eagerly-awaited sequel to Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plazas film, REC 2 , will kick off the42nd Edition of the Sitges 09 International Fantasy Film Festival of Catalonia , which this year pays tribute to the 30th anniversary of the release of Alien , without a doubt a milestone movie for all fantasy and horror film lovers.

Another of the various tributes will be the presentation of the restored version of the cult film A Clockwork Orange . As it could be no other way, its star Malcolm McDowell will be on hand to receive the honorary award from the festival. However, a second big tribute will wait until the closing gala of the festival on the 11th: Viggo Mortensen will be honoured with the showing of his new film The Road , for which he shares billing with Charlize Theron and Robert Duvall.

In the meantime, the festival will have projections of more than 200 cinematographic productions feature films and short films, with a more international selection of titles than ever, representing more than 30 countries.

Among the big events at this edition stands out the Focus 3D section, in which the festival will present titles in three dimensions, like Toy Story , The Hole , Coraline and La Noche de los Muertos Vivientes , by the habitual maestro of horror at Sitges, George A. Romero. In fact, another of the hot activities at the festival will be on the 10th with the Sitges Zombie Walk, the second edition of one of the most characteristic and unique events of Sitges, a grand parade which in the past edition brought together more than 2,000 people dressed up as zombies.
