More than 400 works are participating in the various sections of the 5th International Documentary Film Festival in Extremadura (Extrema'doc), being organised by the Asociacion para la Promocion del Documental [Documentary Promotion Association] Docus, and is being held from November 23-29.
This year, the festival is being devoted mainly to the values of cooperation, both from the point of view of cooperation of development and European cultural development, with which the organisation is supporting the aspirations of the city of Caceres to be European Cultural Capital in 2016. In so doing, specific activities have been organised with Poland, France, Germany, and Portugal.
The approved documentaries come from numerous countries in Europe, Asia, America, and Africa. The international nature of the festival is evident from the list of them, with works coming from China, India, Iran, Ireland, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Cuba, Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Hungary, Poland, and of course, Portugal and Spain.
Although it is held the last week in November, parallel activities are planned starting at the beginning of the month, such as documentary Workshops and photography exhibitions. Events are scheduled throughout the Spanish Region of Extremadura, with series of European Films and cooperation.
These activities will lead to the official and informative sections, and will have a film series devoted to Basilio Martin Patiño in which some of his most important in Spanish documentary history, such as El Caudillo and Queridisimos verdugos, presented by the filmmaker in person, can be seen.
