The different criteria held for the script of Spider-Man 4 by director Sam Raimi and the production company Sony have paralysed the start up of filming, which had been scheduled for February. It seems that Raimi detests the story presented by James Vanderbilt (script-writer of Zodiac ) and re-written by David Lindsay-Abbaire and Gary Ross, as he wants the antagonist of the film to be the criminal Vulture, in spite of opposition from Sony. Consequently, there is speculation about the possible return of Alvin Sargent, who wrote the screenplays for the second and third entries of the Spider-Man saga.
The studio is moving towards a story which is much more romantic and with less action, which would have the Black Cat robber as antagonist, as well as another villain, the identity of which remains unknown for now.
The release date has yet to be confirmed. It had been scheduled for May 5, 2011, but with events that have transpired, its uncertain whether the film will see the light of day at all next year.
