Star Trek the Most Pirated Film of 2009

With nearly 11 million downloads, the remake from the hit series tops the list made by "The Hollywood Reporter”.

"The Hollywood Reporter" magazine has published a list of the ten most pirated films online in 2009, and the film based on the famous hit series “Star Trek” of the ‘60s and ‘70s leads this top ten list, with 10.96 million downloads.

Paramount executives are quite concerned about this situation, to the point of informing the U.S. Federal Communications Commission that this film currently being distributed has become a high demand product on the piracy circuit.

The film, which has earned nearly 400 million dollars worldwide (257 in the U.S. alone), was directed by J.J. Abrahams and has made actors Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto two of the top money-earning stars these days.

Star Trek is followed on the list by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at 10.6 million downloads, RocknRolla at 9.43, The Hangover at 9.18, and Twilight at 8.72 million.

Rounding out the worldwide piracy top ten list are: District 9 at 8.28 million copies, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince , at 7.93, State of Play with 7.44, X-Men Origins: Wolverine at 7.2, and Knowing, with 6.93 million.
